1st January
DIA DE ANO or DIA DEL NINO (Day of the Year or Day of the Child)
A national fiesta and all businesses are closed

5th January
CABALGATE DE LOS REYES MAGOS (Cavalcade of the Magi Kings)
This is not a fiesta day but the evenings are very important!

6th January
EL DIA DE REYES (The day of the Kings)
This is the day where every one enjoys their new toys. It is a national fiesta day in Spain and everywhere is closed . This day is considered the last day of christmas (Twelth Night).

19th March
EL DIA DE SAN JOSE and EL DIA DEL PADRE (St.Josephs Day and Fathers Day)
This is a fiesta only for the Valencian region although formally it was a fiesta for the whole of Spain.On this day huge Fallas (fire and firework displays) are set alight in Valencia.

Semana Santa
HOLY WEEK or EASTER
This celebration can be in either March or April.
El Dia de Jueves Santo (Holy Thursday) is a sad day because of the crusifixion. This day everyone goes to church. The pocessions are very beautiful and emotional for everyone in Southern Spain.
Semana Santa finishes on El Lunes de Pascua (Easter Monday)

1st May
DIA SAN JOSE OBRERO (The day of St.Joseph the worker - Labour Day)
This day is a national fiesta

16th July
DIA DE LA VIRGEN DEL CARMEN
Algorfa celebrates this day as Patron Saints Day. Every village has a patron saint who is celebrated on the day of the saint.
Usually for two weeks leading up to 16th July , Algorfa has their fiesta.

15th August
ASCENSION DE LA VIRGEN (Ascension of the Virgin)
This is a national fiesta day.

9th October
DIA DE LA COMUNIDAD VALENCIANA (Community of Valencia's Day)
This is a regional fiesta

12th October
DIA DE LE HISPANIDAD or DIA DE LA VIRGEN DEL PILAR
This is a regional fiesta day

1st November
DIA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS (All Saints Day)
This is a national fiesta. It is a day where the Spannish remember their family who have died. Everyone visits the cemetery to leave flowers by the graves of loved ones.

6th December
DIA DE LA CONSTITUCION (Day of the Constitution)
This i sa national fiesta. This is th eday the Spannish Constitution was approved after long year sof Franco's dictatorship.

8th December
DIA DE LA PURISISMA/INMACULADA CONCEPCION (The day of the Pure/Immaculate Conception)
This is a national fiesta. It is the start of Christmas and where everybody decorates their tree's and homes.

24th December
DIA DE NOCHE BUENA  ( The day of the Good Night) - Christmas Eve

25th December
DIA DE NAVIDAD (Christmas Day)
This is a national fiesta. Everyone goes to church and families meet together for dinner.

31st December
DIA DE NOCHE VIEJA (Day of the old Night)
Everywhere is open during the day. At night everyone celebrates with a grand fiesta. Families meet together for th elast night of the year. Everyone one has twelve grapes, at midnight everyone eats on egrape for each church bell strike. To have eaten all twelve grapes when the last bell tolls signifies a year of good luck.
